Dorukhan Doruk was born in Istanbul in 1991 and began his studies in 2000 with Dilbağ Tokay at the Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory. In 2008 he continued his studies with Prof. Claus Kanngiesser at the “Hochschule für Musik” in Cologne. From October 2012 onwards, Doruk continued his studies with the famous cellist Truls Mørk at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, while completing his Bachelor Degree in Cologne.
Doruk was selected in 2010 as a scholar for the “Young Musicians on World Stages” Project (YMWS), created and mentored by Güher & Süher Pekinel, with financial support of Tüpraş. In the same year Doruk won 1st Prize at the “Liezen International Cello Competition” in Austria and 1st Prize and 5 Special Prizes at the “8th International Antonio Janigro Cello Competition” in Croatia. In 2011 he received Andante Music Magazine’s award for “Best Emerging Musician”. In 2015 Dorukhan Doruk won 2nd Prize and 2 Special Awards at the “X. Witold Lutoslawski International Cello Competition” in Poland.
In 2013, Doruk performed with Junge Philharmonie Köln in Germany and attended the masterclass at the “Seiji Ozawa Academy in Switzerland”. In March 2014 he took part in a DVD recording of the YMWS concert at Zürich Tonhalle. In addition, he performed at the opening of the “42nd Istanbul Music Festival” with Borusan Symphony Orchestra and took part in concerts at the Ayvalık, Bodrum D-Marin and Samos Festivals. In 2015 he performed as a YMWS scholar at the “Vehbi Koç Award Ceremony” and performed as part of Trio Arte at the Boğaziçi Albert Long Hall, Notre Dame de Sion Concert Hall and “D-Marin Classical Music Festival”. In April 2016 he performed as part of Trio Arte chamber music concerts at the Süreyya Opera and Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall. Again “Trio Arte” performed the “L.V. Beethoven Triple Concerto” with the Pekinels and the “Presidential Symphony Orchestra of Turkey” in Ankara, Turkey and also with the Izmir and Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra. In June 2016 Doruk took to the stage as part of “Trio Arte” at the Istanbul Music Festival (IKSV) together with world famous violist Gérard Caussé and performed the world premiere of renowned composer Özkan Manavs’ work “Ludus Modalis” which was specially written for this event. Together with Gülru Ensari he performed recital concerts at Süreyya Opera Istanbul, Culture University Denizli and at Bilkent Concert Hall Ankara.
In 2015 he took to the stage with famous cellist David Geringas at a chamber music concert in Germany, as well as quartet as part of the “Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival”. Doruk performed during the “Jeju Music Festival” in January 2016 as a member of the Trio Bell’Arte and as a soloist of the “Hankyung Sinfonietta” under the conductorship of Gum Nanse. In February 2016, he played with the Trio Bell’Arte once more, this time at the Gangdon Arts Center in Seoul.
June 2016 Doruk received as a member of “Trio Arte” the First Prize for chamber music at the “Pietro Argento International Music Competition” at Gioia del Colle in Italy. At the 44. IKSV International Istanbul Music Festival, a live recording was made of the performance of Trio Arte with world famous violist Gérard Caussé. Here, “Trio Arte” also performed the world premiere of renowned composer Özkan Manav’s work “Ludus Modalis”, specially written for this event and for Trio Arte.
Currently Dorukhan Doruk is continuing his musical carreer with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks (BRSO).
